The plot of Haywire forms around Mallory (Carano) an ex-Marine and operative in the Private ˜defence’ Sector. Danger looms around every corner in her line of work however when being at the top of your game, nothing is too impossible. This changes when your soon to be ex-employer Kenneth (Ewan McGregor) decides to sends her on missions around the world, ending with one last scheme that may not be as it seems. A ˜holiday’ it is not, never believe anyone in the business of deceit is definitely lesson one. Now on the run from McGregor, and various other colleagues, who all seem to be men, she faces a fight for her life. Also trying to save a young man she has dragged into her crazy world.
Haywire‘s first scene throws the audience right into the action, and within minutes a violent and abrupt fight breaks out between two main characters. You soon realise why they cast Carano as the main character as her attitude is tough, her brawling skills excellent, when she kicks ass you know she means it. The only grievance I have with her is that her acting skills lack believability, or more simply she cannot act. I desperately wanted her to be better than she was, purely because I found the whole film entertaining, although slightly shallow. Aggression is the driving force behind her, which may have worked on projects before. Some training in the ways of the silver screen may not go a miss.
