Everyone’s favourite paper salesman/Sherlock biographer/Hobbit Martin Freeman is in talks to join Tina Fey’s latest big screen comedy Taliban Shuffle.

An adaptation of Kim Barker’s wartime memoir, Taliban Shuffle shows her life as a journalist in Kabul from 2002. Armed with no understanding of the language, geography or culture of the region, she slowly falls in love with it despite the growing tensions due to invasion/war/political beliefs.

Tina Fey is writing the adaptation and starring as Barker, while The Wolf on Wall Street’s Margot Robbie is joining her as an ambitious news anchor. Freeman is wanted to play Barker’s love interest, a Scottish photo-journalist.

The black comedy should start filming next year and with the talent on paper, there’s every chance we could be looking at a modern classic in political satire.
