Following the staggeringly awesome news that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the future spider-related plans have been shelved. But now Drew Goddard, a man who Sony were looking to for an imagining of a Sinister Six film is now pushing to become the director of the new Spider-Man standalone film, due for release in 2017. The basic plot for the film could potentially see Spidey audition for a role in a new version of The Avengers to none other than Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) himself. Goddard would be a pretty awesome choice as he proven his credentials with work like Cloverfield and Cabin in the Woods. He may still take on Sinister Six, but their outing may well be delayed until Spidey is firmly entrenched in the MCU.
